In 1980, while coming to an end of a period of seven years of Big Island residency, I decided to explore the remains of the old Kohala Railway. I knew the entire area was slated for extensive future real estate development, so I headed out with my Nikkormat FTN and Army canteen to walk the length of the old railway line. First off, I had to get a shot (see above) of the famous photo, and found that same spot, with my car right about where the the classic little engine once posed. |
